My Herb Planter

I have a small sunny corner in my garden where I plant my herbs. I have several perennials - sage, oregano, chives and lavender. And every year I plant rosemary - my favourite, basil, dill and parsley. With the exception of the rosemary, the others never do very well. So this year I decided to plant those finicky ones in a separate planter to see if I would have any better luck.

My Herb Planter

Well here's how it looks after 3 weeks! Pretty good eh? I added some lettuce also and now I find myself picking lettuce to make a fresh salad several times a week. And I find the next time I go out, it is ready to be harvested again.

As you can see, my dill is very healthy. We use dill quite often as my husband does a wonderful grilled rainbow trout with herbs and lemon. I find however that dill goes to seed very quickly and looses its flavour. So I decided to pick some of it ( since we have more than we will use now ) and freeze it.

I cut the dill into 6 inch pieces and removed the stems.

Then I put them into the small snack zip lock bags.

And labelled them so all of the family knows what it is.

Fantastic! Now we can enjoy fresh dill with our fish all of the time.

Stay tuned for more tips on herbs and a great recipe for Goat Cheese Tart with Herbs and Lemon. You will love it!
