The Start of Summer!

So where have I been you ask?
Starting a new job in March has consumed a lot of my time. Working many late nights trying to understand a new business and a 3 week business trip to Asia can play havoc with a personal life. But I am so excited to have a few days off and enjoy the start of summer! ( As well as write a blog or 2 ). Woo hoo!

Once the nice weather arrives, the opening of our pool signals summer is here. I am always pushing my husband to take the cover off the pool so we can fully enjoy our backyard haven.

Setting up the outdoor furniture always makes me feel good. I look forward to morning coffee by the pool, lounging in the afternoon and dining alfresco.

And then there are the gardens and flowers. Since we have a large shady yard, perennials fill most of the gardens...

Shade loving ferns thrive in our gardens

... but I add colour with planters. This year my main colours are hot pink and orange - just like my Christmas decor from last year.

I love how pink and orange 'pop' against the green back drop.

I purchase large hanging baskets and place them in the planters for instant impact. Our summer is just too short to wait for small plants to grow as far as I am concerned.

And now that things are looking good, I will sit back and enjoy the start of summer.
